La conferencia para migrantes venezolanos consigue 1500 millones de dólares
agosto 6, 2021La Agencia de la ONU para los Refugiados (ACNUR) y la Organización Internacional para las Migraciones (OIM) informaron este jueves que las necesidades de los migrantes y refugiados venezolanos han aumentado como resultado de la crisis económica derivada de la pandemia de COVID-19 y conminaron a la comunidad internacional a contribuir con 1440 millones de dólares para poder asistirlos este año.
Al término del evento, se anunciaron compromisos por 1500 millones de dólares, incluyendo 954 millones en donaciones.
Los fondos solicitados contemplan también apoyar a las comunidades que han acogido a esas personas, explicaron esos organismos en una Conferencia de Donantes para la causa, auspiciada por el gobierno de Canadá.
El representante especial de ACNUR y OIM para las Personas Venezolanas Refugiadas y Migrantes señaló que el éxodo de Venezuela parece no tener fin y advirtió que podría convertirse en una crisis olvidada.
“La pandemia de COVID-19 continúa devastando la región, lo cual amenaza el futuro de millones de personas refugiadas y migrantes y de sus comunidades de acogida. El compromiso y la solidaridad se necesitan más que nunca para garantizar que sigan recibiendo asistencia”, recalcó Eduardo Stein.
El Plan Regional de Respuesta para Refugiados y Migrantes para el año 2021 busca dar respuesta a las necesidades más apremiantes de 3,3 millones de personas y de sus anfitriones, pero aún no ha recibido los recursos que precisa. Actualmente hay 5,6 millones de personas que han salido de Venezuela, generando la segunda mayor crisis de desplazamiento del mundo.
